Geometry and Simulation Type

HELIOS can perform 1-D radiation-hydrodynamics simulations in planar, cylindrical, or spherical geometry.

To select the geometry, select the appropriate button in the Geometry widget.

Some simulation parameters are valid only in certain geometries. Because of this, warning messages will sometimes be displayed when selecting a new geometry.

Controls for requesting non-default initial conditions for

• Separate electron and ion temperatures,
• Velocities,
• Magnetic fields.

Relevant fields in "Spatial Grid" tab are only displayed if a corresponding box is checked in Simulation Type. Note that "Magnetic field" control is only enabled in cylindrical geometry.

Advanced settings:

• The position of the minimum node can be set. The default is 0.0.
