Workspace Files

Workspace files contain parameters for a single project. The user saves project data to the workspace file by selecting File | Save or File | Save As. A previously-stored workspace file is opened by selecting File | Open.

Contents of the file include:

• Target component parameters
• Laser beam parameters
• Chamber component parameters
• Simulation time grid and simulation configuration parameters
• Results for calculated source powers and radiosities
• Miscellaneous run and viewing parameters

Each project can have one, and only one, workspace file.

Starting with version 21.0.0, the option to write JSON-formatted files has been added. It is recommended that JSON-formatted files be used (controlled using the Files/Directories tab in Preferences), as this option provides better support for reading/writing workspaces that use different versions of VISRAD. They also can be readily modified using scripting tools such as Python.

Workspace Increment Files

A "Workspace Increment" is a temporary file that is written to a folder that stores the workspace parameters without overwriting the current workspace. Users can choose to go back and reload a workspace increment by simply browsing for the file.

• To save a workspace increment, use either the File | Save Increment menu item, or click on the tool button.
• The folder used for storing increments has the same name as the current workspace file, but without the ".vrw" extension.
• The name of the increment is the same as the workspace file with an integer appended to the name.
• When closing the workspace, the user is prompted to save or delete the folder containing the workspace increments.
