Image Files
Graphical images in VISRAD can be written in several common image formats. Currently supported image file formats are:
- BMP (*.bmp)
- PNG (*.png)
- XBM (*.xbm)
- XPM (*.xpm)
- JPEG (*.jpg)
- PNM portable bitmap (*.pbm)
- PNM portable graymap (*.pgm)
- PNM portable pixmap (*.ppm)
To save the image in the VISRAD main window, select File | Export Image.
Images from several of the graphics windows can now be exported with a user-specified number of pixels.
- Windows affected include:
- Options for the exported image size include:
- Original size
- Specifying a custom number of pixels for either width or height (the aspect ratio remains fixed)
- Percentage of original width and height.

Limitations on exporting images:
- The aspect ratio is held fixed (i.e., it is the same as that shown in displayed window).
- Number of pixels: The buffer size, which limits the maximum number of pixels in the image that is exported, is system-dependent. In test cases on a Windows 7 PC, the largest image produced was ~ 20,000 x 12,000 pixels.
- When exporting an image from the Main Window Graphics Frame, if not exporting as the Original Size, the option to add the color bar widget that is located below the Main Window Graphics Frame is not supported.
