Results Datasets

Results from a VISRAD simulation are store in datasets, separately containing results for power source data, view factor data, and radiosity data. For each, there is one dataset per simulation time.

Because of the potentially large size of view factor datasets (data is ~ [number of surfaces]**2), the view factor data is cached. When the data storage required by view factors exceeds the cache size, the least recently used view factor datastet is removed. The cache size for the view factor data can be changed by editing the preferences.

Neither the power source data nor the radiosity data is cached.

Datasets are automatically deleted, as needed, when parameters are changed in the Object Parameters Dialog or the Laser Beam Parameters Dialog. When the display of data is requested, or when a simulation is run, if the dataset for the relevant simulation time is not available the data is computed.
