For Point Projection, a Distributed backlighter results in each detector pixel drawing a ray to each of the points in the backlighter distribution, as defined in the user interface. A schematic illustration for a rectangular detector is shown below for a 2D cross section. The points in the plasma represent intersections of the rays with walls of the plasma volume elements. For simplicity, the illustration only shows rays for two of the detector pixels.
When specifying Point Projection, the center of the detector points to the Backlighter Position.
