For the Spherical Crystal Projection Model, the rays emanating from each of the pixels in the detector grid reflect off a spherical crystal, and pass through the plasma to a small backlighter. The backlighter is located on the Rowland circle of the spherical crystal.
The Spherical Crystal Projection model is shown below.
Spherical crystal modeling is used when modeling monochromatic backlighters. Photons emitted from the backlighter propagate along different lines of sight through the plasma, and reflect off the crystal, producing an image in the detector plane. The image below shows lines of sight generated in the detector-target orientation viewer, where lines of sight intersecting the center, sides, and corners of the detector grid are shown in red, green, and blue, respectively.
